The first stage of the 2020 Jayco Herald Sun Tour will see riders tackle a relatively flat course with a fast run into the finish, with the opening day expected to end in an elbows-out sprint. Stage 1 will be high stakes as the first Tour leader’s jersey will be on offer.

With a combination of long straight sections of open orchard and winery roads exposed to the elements, and multiple direction changes, the terrain should provide the catalyst for great racing.

Sprinters and General Classification contenders will all need to stay alert for any potential splits in the peloton, a moment lost or a break escaping could see them miss out on the chance to race to victory.

The Word from the Men’s Race Director – Scott McGrory

“Knowing that the winner of the opening stage will also become the Tour leader always increases the intensity of the first day. If it’s a windy day, only the strongest and most motivated riders and teams will keep themselves in the hunt for stage and GC honours.

It’s always a pleasure to start from such a beautiful location and the Mitchelton Winery has often provided a scenic backdrop over recent years. It’s been quite a while since we have been to Shepparton which has a strong cycling, MTB and BMX community, so I’m pleased to bring the Tour back to town.”
