This first road stage for the tour sees a flat start as riders head away from the coast, however this will soon be forgotten as the race heads deep into the hills of South Gippsland.

A short relief as the riders drop into the edge of the Latrobe Valley before heading towards the Category 1 climb of the day.

Only 12 kilometres from the finish and finishing along a 1.8-kilometre gravel section, this steep climb will definitely bring the best climbers out to play.

However, the race isn’t over here: a winding 7-kilometre descent followed by a relatively flat 4 kilometre run into the finish will see the race come right to the wire and make for an extremely exciting finish.

The Word from the Race Director – Scott McGrory

“The oldest stage race in Australia has seen so many roads along its journey to 2019, but this stage will instantly become known as a classic. The flat early kilometres will allow the riders to ease into the day, and they’ll need to as the second half is equally spectacular and brutal. The Peloton will wind its way through the Strzelecki Ranges on what will seem like a cycling rollercoaster, nothing too steep, but the winding and weaving nature of the roads will be enjoyable for the strongest riders. The final climb is as unknown as it is surprisingly steep and will be the first proving ground for the riders with ambitions of overall victory.”
