Day two of the Jayco Herald Sun Tour will be the first big test for the climbers in the peloton. Beginning with a descent out of Beechworth into Stanley, the course then rolls through the North East Victorian countryside, conditions which will suit a breakaway group.
However it’s unlikely they will be given too much leeway with the looming climb of Falls Creek to come. Some narrow lumpy roads through Mongans Bridge alongside the Kiewa River may help a break to stay away out of sight of the chasing peloton, hoping to get a head start up the final Falls Creek climb.
With 30 kilometres of climbing at 3.9% average gradient and 1160m of elevation, this will show who has got what it takes to win the Tour.

2020 Jayco Herald Sun Tour – Thule Men Stage 2 – Beechworth to Falls Creek
The Word from the Race Director – Scott McGrory
“Beechworth is another hotspot for cycle tourism in the North East and has been a popular destination for the Tour throughout its entire history. Damien Howson set up his overall Jayco Herald Sun Tour victory on the road to Falls Creek in 2017, but this time the 30km climb is the first of two climbing opportunities in the Tour.
Falls Creek will show us the few riders that have a chance to win overall, but as tough as it is, it may not be the winner of this stage that takes the overall win three days later in Melbourne. Coming into the Victorian High Country is always a pleasure for the riders and a short stage of 122km, but with a long 30km sting in the tail will provide a great race and a true test.”
