Course Overview

Date Friday 7 February 2020
Location Bright to Wangaratta
Format Road Race
Course Distance 178.1 km
Start Time 10am, Mountbatten Ave, Bright
Estimated Finish 2:15pm approx, Swan St, Wangaratta
Categories Elite Men

The longest stage in the race with a possible sprint finish certainly won’t be an easy ride, especially those with tired legs after stage 2. It’s hard not to see a break go on the early climb over Tawonga Gap, and if the peloton hits the hill hard the sprinters will have some chasing to do through the Kiewa Valley. Another easier climb over Rosewhite Gap should continue to favour the aggressors of the peloton, and again have the fast men feeling the pace.

However, being a long stage there are plenty of kilometres from Rosewhite to Wangaratta, so the possibility of a bunch sprint is real.

The Word from the Race Director – Scott McGrory

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3_shYuTFkk&feature=youtu.be

“Bright is the jewel in the outdoor activity crown of this region, and a regular holiday destination for me and many of the Australian riders. With most likely a pure climber in the leader’s jersey, Bright is the ideal place to depart for the longest stage of the Tour as the locals understand and respect what it takes to conquer the big climbs of the Alpine Shire.”
